Blood Alcohol Concentration Increases Risk for Fatal Crashes

The risk of a motor vehicle crash increases as your BAC increases.

If your BAC is;
Risk for fatal crash increases;
.02 - .04
1.4 times
.05 - .09
11.1 times
.10 - .14
48 times
.15 or higher
380 times

Look at the risk of having an accident at certain BAC levels compared to those with a zero percent BAC.
  • BAC = .00% : Risk = 1 to 1
  • BAC = .04% : Risk = 1 to 1
  • BAC = .06% : Risk = 2 to 1
  • BAC = .08% : Risk = 4 to 1
  • BAC = .10% : Risk = 6 to 1
  • BAC = .12% : Risk = 11 to 1
  • BAC = .14% : Risk = 20 to 1
  • BAC = .15% : Risk = 25 to 1
  • BAC = .16% : Risk = 35 to 1
